Making it real....
2009-11-06 - Richard & Yolanda Mtsweni
In high school, I was an accident waiting to happen! If it could break, I would be the one to break it. If it could fall and shatter to millions of pieces, I was the man for the Job. I remember breaking the tuck-shop window during second break (oh boy). The call came on the intercom, “Will Richard Mtsweni please come to the office with your bags.” If you’re a guy you know the feeling. Your stomach turns inside out, your ears begin to ring and your palms become all sweaty.
What makes it worse is reassuring ‘oooohhs’ that reverberate around the classroom as you take the long walk of shame. You try your best to look like it doesn’t bother you. “Aint no thang, I got dis, I’m da man, no thing but a chicken wing”, you vainly try to convince yourself. As you make your approach towards the dungeon known to others as “the office”, your entire school career flashes before your eyes. Now just press pause on your remote and let’s freeze this moment. This is what it means not to have peace.
Before we were born again, the bible says we were, “aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world” …by His death on the cross, Jesus paid the price for our redemption, and brought us peace and union with the Father. He is our Peace.
No wonder the Bible declares “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Romans 5:1). Before we can have the peace of God, “we must have “peace with God.”We must enter through the gates of grace to find the pleasure of His peace.
The word Peace as used above is from the Greek word “irene.” It’s a word that describes an end to hostilities between two warring enemies. It means to be set at one again; it also depicts peace with quietness and prosperity. What this implies is that through Christ Jesus, You’ve been set at one with God is that through Christ Jesus, You’ve been set at one with God; You’ve come home in God! His death brokered a peace-accord between you and God together in our families bring about a ceasefire as it were; and He has furnished it with prosperity.
There’s no need anymore for you to live in apprehension that one day God may recall your wrongs and punish you, No! Jesus has already taken your punishment! The Bible says the punishment that brought us peace was laid on Jesus on the cross: “But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punished for our peace was on Him…” (Isaiah 53:5). There is a price for peace; there is a payment of blood that must be paid. The joy in knowing Christ is that He has shed blood and borne our pain that we might be lavished with that tranquil state of contentment; having nothing missing and nothing broken. He paid the price for our peace.
This is what makes us bold to live as champions. We’ve been awakened to the Fatherhood of God. We have unhindered and uninterrupted access to the Father twenty-four hours a day! Refuse to allow the devil to deceive you and make you believe that God has score to settle with you. Jesus already settled every score on your behalf, and established peace between you and your Father:” For He is our Peace.
What makes this peace so different from the counterfeit offered by the world? What is it about this rest that surpasses understanding? I have come to realize that it is the face that I don’t deserve it. I did not work for it. It’s like writing an exam knowing that you have already passed before you even start. I love it.God rejoices in our peace as His servants, It thrills God when we prosper in all things.
Let them continually say, “Great is the Lord, who delights in blessing his servant with peace!”
- Psalms 35:27
